8th Graders: Recount Text (Part One)

Assalamualaikum, dear 8^th graders? …

I'm happy to see you today... . I hope you all fine😃.

Okay, dears. Let’s start our activity today with saying Bismillahirrohmanirrohim👐.

Today’s session is Recount Text. Check it out!

Let me ask you dears …. What did you do on your holiday yesterday? Did you go a vacation to somewhere place? What did you do there? Seeing scenery or taking some photos or go swimming?

Those activities are some examples what we could do on vacation, right? Nha… the description of some activities which we were done in the time passed can be called as Recount Text.

Okay dears…Let’s learn the definition, generic structure, purpose and the language features of Recount Text.

1.      Definition of Recount Text

Recount text is a text which tells some activities done in the past or it can be said about the writer’s past experiences.

Teks recount adalah teks yang menceritakan tentang kegiatan yang telah dilakukan dimasa lampau atau bisa dikatakan sebagai pengalaman masa lalu si penulis. 

2.      Purpose of Recount Text

The social function of Recount text is presenting information about chronological events happened in the past.

Fungsi teks recount adalah memberi informasi tentang rangkaian peristiwa yang terjadi di masa lalu. 

3.      Generic structure of Recount Text

There are three parts of Recount Text, they are:

a.       Orientation

This part introduces the participants, place, and time.

Pada bagian ini penulis akan mengenalkan tokoh, tempat kejadian dan waktu peristiwa terjadi.

b.      Events

This part describes series of events that happened in the past.

Pada bagian ini berisi rangkaian peristiwa yang terjadi di masa lalu.

c.       Reorientation

This part is actually optional. It states personal comment of the writer to the story.

Bagian ini menyatakan kesan dari si penulis atas peristiwa yang dialaminya. 

4.      Language feature of Recount Text

-          Introducing personal participant

Personal participant merujuk tokoh secara specific, misalnya I (the writer).

-          Using chronological connection

Chronological connection disini misalnya then, next, after, before, and etc.

-          using of action verbs

Action verbs digunakan jika menggambarkan aktivitas, misalnya: Then we swam at the sea.

-          Using simple past tense.

We went to the sea [√]

not We go to the sea [X]
