Let’s start our activity today with saying Bismillahirrohmanirrohim first.

Today’s session is Simple Past Tense. Check it out!

Talking about past activity that was done, we use Past tense. This is about the rule to make a sentence. How do we make it, dears? Let’s learn about this tense. (Berbicara tentang kegiatan yang telah selesai dilakukan, maka kita menggunakan tensis Past. Ini adalah tentang membuat kalimat sesuai pola tensisnya. Bagaimakah cara kita membuatnya? Yuk kita pelajari tensisnya)

1.      DEFINITION

Simple Past Tense

Digunakan untuk menjelaskan bahwa suatu kejadian sudah terjadi dan waktunya sudah berlalu ( menjelaskan kejadian yang terjadi di waktu lampau). Keterangan waktu yang digunakan dalam Past tense yaitu keterangan waktu yang menunjukan waktu lampau seperti:

Yesterday                last week                      last year                       last month

Last night                two days ago               an hour ago                 a moment ago

 

Contoh:

-       My father went to Jogjakarta last night.

-       The students practiced speaking English last week.

-       I got a terrible experience yesterday.

-       Anita cleaned the class last morning.

-       Mita and Salsa bought the pen in the school shop an hour ago.

2.   FORM

3. Kinds of verb in Past tense

a. Regular verbs

    Contoh:

1.     I studied English last night.

2.     My mother cooked fried rice last morning.

3.     Tita listened to the radio an hour ago.

4.     Mira visited her aunt last night.

5.     My teacher shouted to a naughty student a moment ago.

          6.    Tono played badminton yesterday.

          7.    My mother worked in the hospital three years ago.

8.    Rita wrapped a special present last week.

 

Kata-kata yang dicetak miring di atas merupakan kata kerja beraturan (regular verb) bentuk lampau (V2) yang digunakan dalam simple past tense. Ciri dari kata kerja beraturan adalah dengan penambahan –ed/-d pada akhir kata dengan memperhatikan:

-            bentuk infinitive yang berakhir dengan huruf konsonan ‘ch/sh/s/x’ ditambah      -ed:  watch → watched

-            bentuk infinitive yang berakhir dengan huruf vokal ‘e’ hanya ditambah –d:

describe → described

 receive   → received

-            bentuk infinitive yang berakhir dengan huruf konsonan ‘y’ didahului oleh konsonan lain, maka ‘y’ diganti dengan ‘i’ lalu ditambah –ed: fry → fried

cry          → cried

study      → studied

 hurry      → hurried

-            bentuk infinitive yang berakhir dengan huruf konsonan p,d,b,g,m,n,r,t yang didahului huruf vokal  maka huruf konsonan tersebut ditulis double sebelum ditambah  –ed:  stop → stopped, mop →  mopped, plan →  planned.

b. Irregular Verbs

   Contoh:

1.    Yesterday, My sister and I went shopping.

2.    We found a nice batik shirt.

3.    We bought it.

4.    We made a birthday cake for our grandfather.

5.    We wrote"Happy birthday” on a cake.

6.    We also put chocolate on a cake.

7.    On Sunday evening, we had a party.

8.    My uncle and my aunt came to my house.

 

Catatan:

1.   Selain bentuk kata kerja yang digunakan dalam Past Tense ada yang regular/ beratur ada juga yang tidak beraturan / ' irregular verbs'. Irregular verbs'  tidak sama  perubahanya dengan bentuk regular verb.

2.   Berikut contoh irregular verb yang harus kamu ingat:

4. THE PAST FORM OF ‘BE’

1.     “Were/ was merupakan kata kerja kedua (Bentuk lampau) dari kata kerja be. “was/were” digunakan ketika tidak terdapat kata kerja utama pada sebuah kalimat.

2.    Form

(+)      S + was/were + noun/Adjective/Adverb

(-)       S + was/were + not + noun/Adjective/Adverb

(?)       Was/were + S + noun/Adjective/Adverb

 

        The answer:

(+)                Yes, S + was/were

(-)                 No, S + was/were + not

II. Put in is/ am/ are or was/ were.

Example: The Sky is very clear today. It was cloudy yesterday.

1.         I ... happy today but I ... sad yesterday.

2.         Last year, I ... 12 years old, Now I ... 13 years old.

3.         Today the sky ... so bright but yesterday the sky ... cloudy.

4.         ... you at home last afternoon?
